Here are questions for us to prayerfully consider as we prepare for worship this Sunday (the lessons are from the Track 2 option). We hope you will find them a useful resource as you prepare to receive them in church. Click on the red headings below to go to the reading.
This is a comforting passage with perhaps surprising imagery for some of us. We are more familiar with maternal images used for God’s people and especially for the church. Many of us may be less familiar with maternal imagery for God. Try praying this week with these words from Isaiah in our mind, “As a mother comforts her child, so I will comfort you.” When we do that, does anything change for us?
Who do you think God’s enemies are?
In the first few verses, Paul describes how healthy Christian communities live together—with honesty, gentleness, humility, care for each other, and a lack of comparison among ourselves. Does this describe Christ Church in your experience? How are we doing in following this way of life together?
Do you think all followers of Christ are called to “Go and labor in the fields”? Perhaps not all of us as formal missionaries or clergy, but workers for Christ and the gospel of God’s love. What might that type of labor look like for you in your daily life?
