Independence Day Holy Eucharist

Join us on July 4th at 10 a.m. in the church, as we celebrate our faith and our country in a special Holy Eucharist worship service. Come early at 9:45 a.m. for a patriotic singalong.

July 6: Phyllis Tickle - An Episcopalian from Tennessee with an intellect matched only by her sense of humor, Tickle has served as Religion Editor for Publishers Weekly magazine. Today, she serves as a Lay Eucharistic Minister and Reader in her parish and is an engaging and sought after preacher and speaker. Her work on religion and spirituality is frequently cited in all major media sources. Among her two dozen books: My Father’s Prayer: A Remembrance, Re-Discovering the Sacred: Spirituality in America, God-Talk in America, The Divine Hours, and her latest, Prayer is a Place.

July 20: The Rev. Dr. Frank Wade - After serving congregations in his native West Virginia for 17 years, Wade was called as rector of St. Alban’s, Washington, D.C., where he served from 1983 until his retirement in 2005. At the 2000 General Convention, he served as chaplain to the House of Deputies where his gifted leadership was deeply valued. He currently teaches in the doctoral program at Virginia Theological Seminary and at the General Theological Seminary as adjunct professor of pastoral theology. He is the author of The Art of Being Together: Common Sense About Life Long Relationships.

August 23: The Right Reverend Frank Cerveny, retired bishop of Florida.

Wednesday Night at the Movies

Every Wednesday night through July 23, 7 p.m. in Christian Family Center 208, we will watch some great movies and continue with great conversation. led by The Rev. Ann Broomell, afterwards. Popcorn and soda provided. These movies are planned for adult viewing and discussion. The Christ Church nursery will be open for infants and children through 4 years old. "See the Leaves" 2008 Senior trip to Kanuga

There is still time to sign up for the seniors' "See the Leaves" trip at Kanuga Conference Center in Hendersonville, North Carolina. The trip is set for Oct. 13 - 17. Each morning you can participate in Kanuga's programming (water color, carving, crafts, etc.), join a simple Bible study led by Christ Church's own Rev. Bob Morris, or just relax and take in the beauty of western North Carolina. There are special Christ Church outings planned each afternoon, a Christ Church social before dinner each evening, and Vespers in Kanuga's beautiful Chapel of the Transfiguration following dinner. Do as little or as much as you like. You pick and choose, setting the pace that's right for you.

Accommodation will be at Kanuga's Lake Inn. Round trip travel will be by luxury coach. Complete information on Kanuga's  "See the Leaves" guest week can be found at www.kanuga.org. Cruisin' with Christ Church

THERE'S STILL TIME TO SIGN UP! There are a few spots open for the September 23 – October 5 cruise of the Mediterranean led by The Reverend Ann Broomell. Ann will teach along the way, emphasizing especially the journeys of Paul. Ports of call include Mykonos, Greece; Ephesus; Rhodes, Greece; Limassol, Cyprus; Alexandria, Egypt; Athens, Greece; Naples / Capri, Italy; and Rome.

Some of the participants are planning to go early to Rome in order to experience the history and spirituality of Rome before departing for the cruise. Cost for the cruise depends upon cabin selection. Cruise base rates will begin at approx. $1600 per person, double occupancy and does not include airfare. Port fees and shore excursions will also be extra. The cost of this cruise is a bargain, considering that it is a 12-day cruise.
