music & arts
Christ Episcopal Church’s music program features a diverse offering of choral, praise and traditional church music. Led by newly arrived music minister Dr. Rachel Root, Christ Episcopal Church invites its parishioners to embrace their worship experience by lifting their voices to the Lord in song.
The music and arts program also offers opportunities for musicians to let their light shine, performing for various services at the church.
Chancel Choir
Chancel Choir (Adult) The Chancel Choir leads the congregation in hymn singing, anthems and service music. All are welcome who are willing to commit to weekly rehearsals and 11:15 a.m. Sunday worship services, and who enjoy the great music of the Christian Church. Rehearsals are on Wednesdays in the Choir Room from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. and on Sundays at 10:30 a.m. The Choir is on vacation during the month of July. We also sing for major celebrations such as Christmas Eve, Epiphany, Holy Week services and occasionally for 5:30 p.m. weekend services.
Choir School
Choir School (Children and Youth) The Choir School program, an affiliate of the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) http://www.rscmamerica.org/ guides children along the path to becoming mature Christians who serve the church through God’s gift of music. Professional music instruction is offered at no charge to all children ages three through sixth grade in the greater beaches community.
Cherub Choir
(pre-K through first grade) practices on Wednesday afternoons and sings occasionally on Sundays throughout the year. This introductory choir assists children in learning the routine and discipline necessary for a lifetime of music ministry.
St. Cecilia Choir
(second and third graders, with exceptions) sings once each month and on festival Sundays. In this ensemble, children learn to participate in the liturgy and begin to take responsibility for sharing in the leadership of worship.
St. Nicholas Choir
fourth grade and above, with exceptions) is the ensemble which leads music each week for the 9:00 a.m. service of worship, singing every Sunday throughout the school year and for major Feast Days (especially Christmas Eve and Good Friday).
Contemporary Music Team
The Contemporary Music Team is a group of youth who lead music for the 11:15 a.m. Sunday contemporary worship service in the Parish Center. The team includes singers and instrumentalists. All are welcome. For additional information, contact Tim Root, Director of Contemporary Music at roots47@comcast.net
Liturgical Dance
Liturgical Dance is offered in weekly classes for girls and boys ages three years and up. In December, dancers perform The Nutcracker ballet for the parish and community to benefit outreach programs. Older dancers also provide special offerings at worship services and on Feast Days. Proceeds are donated to Dreams Come True to help a terminally ill child and to Amistad Mission, a Bolivian orphanage. For additional information, contact Felicia Rhoden at missfelicia@comcast.net.
