Lent
Lent is a very important season in the Christian calendar. Lent lasts forty days, beginning on Ash Wednesday and ending in the Great Vigil of Easter, the first celebration of Jesus’ Resurrection. Lent reminds us of the forty years the Israelites spent in the desert before entering the Promised Land, and the forty days Jesus spent in the desert after his baptism. On Ash Wednesday, we are invited to “the observance of a holy Lent, by self-examination and repentance; by prayer, fasting, and self-denial; and by reading and meditating on God’s holy Word.” Lent is the season for us to turn again towards God. We do this through repentance (asking God to forgive us), prayer, and worship. Lent is also a time of simplicity, quietness, and reflection. During this Lenten season, Christ Episcopal Church is offering many opportunities for you to turn again toward God so that you may celebrate anew and participate in the resurrected life of Jesus Christ
