Christ Church parishioners painted the day red as they celebrated this year’s Pentecost with liturgical dancers, a Jazz Mass, a visit from The Right Reverend Samuel Johnson Howard and a huge fried chicken Pentecost feast in the Parish Center.

Our annual cake decorating contest also drew quite a few participants.  The winners were: Most cheerful cake – 4-yr.old Simone Riegert; Most chocolately cake – Krystal Woods; Most colorful Pentecost cake – Parker Quinlan; Most healthy cake - Alice Hill; Most statuesque cake – Wesley Davis; Most tricky technique cake and grand prize winner – Taylor Fleming.  Start making your plans now for next year’s cake contest!

Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters and more packed Christ Church on Friday, May 24 to witness and celebrate the 2013 Christ Episcopal Church Preschool graduation. Kicking off the program, the children entertained the crowd with songs of celebration. After handing out diplomas to the mini-cap and gown graduates, Preschool Director Janet Blacker sent the children off with words of praise, blessings and hugs.

Father Bob Morris, Associate Rector of Pastoral Care for Christ Episcopal Church, was the keynote speaker at the annual St. John’s County Council on Aging Centenarian Luncheon and Celebration held at THE PLAYERS Community Senior Center on Landrum Lane. Bob shared his message that we should live every moment with grace and thankfulness; a subject he knows well following his severe illness 18 months ago. Bob felt that this grace and thankfulness is an attribute that has helped these honorees live such long and fruitful lives!

Special Children’s Formation - The children will be meeting in a combined Children’s Formation class in CFC 208.

Over 50 members came forward tonight, Tues., May 14, to be confirmed, received and affirmed as a part of this year’s Confirmation class. Joining in the celebration, parents, family members, mentors, and friends joined them at the altar as The Right Reverend Samuel J. Howard, bishop of Florida, and Assisting Bishop Charles Keyser laid hands upon those being confirmed, received and reaffirmed.

Singles Golf Clinic and Lunch – Join us for a golf clinic for beginners to moderately active golfers at Palm Valley Golf Club, 1075 Palm Valley Road. The golf clinic begins at 10 a.m. The lesson is free. Balls for the clinic are $5 for a medium bucket and $7 for a large bucket. The Ministry of Mothers Sharing (MOMS) at Christ Church honored all moms last Friday, May 10, with a special Mothers Day Tea. Twenty-six ladies turned out for this wonderful celebration which welcomed guest speaker Valorie Baker, director of Counseling and Student Support Services at Episcopal School of Jacksonville. Beverly Chapman shared her musical talents by playing the violin during the tea.
