Special worship services - confirmation
In the course of their Christian development, those baptized at an early age are expected, when they are ready and have been duly prepared, to make a mature and public affirmation of their faith and commitment to the responsibilities of their Baptism and to receive the laying on of hands by the bishop.
........................ –from the Book of Common Prayer, page 412
Confirmation is the “mature and public affirmation of one’s faith and commitment to the responsibilities of one’s Baptism.” Confirmation takes place once a year at Christ Church, usually on a Tuesday evening in the spring, when the bishop visits and performs the rite of confirmation, reception, and reaffirmation by laying hands on and praying for each candidate. Those who have already been confirmed in a church of another denomination may be received into the Episcopal Church, and those who have already been baptized and confirmed may take this opportunity to publicly reaffirm their faith.
Confirmation is also a process. Classes for youth or adults begin in early spring and involve study, reflection, community building, outreach, and prayer. The Rite of Confirmation is a beautiful service at Christ Church, and the confirmation process is a wonderful way to explore one’s faith, learn about the Episcopal Church, and to become actively engaged in the life of Christ Church.
Confirmation is open to all baptized Christians who are sixteen years old or older. Confirmation classes for youth begin in February. Classes for adults are held separately and take place during Lent. If you would like to register for youth or adult confirmation, please contact the church office at 285-7390. |
